The New York State Police have identified the woman killed in a tragic accident on the New York State Thruway in Rotterdam as 51-year-old Julia Barrett from Troy. The incident occurred Saturday night (August 23) near Exit 25, where Barrett was reportedly standing in a travel lane when she was struck by a vehicle. Her car was found parked on the shoulder of the road near the scene of the accident.
According to New York State Police, the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and contacted emergency services immediately. The driver has been cooperative with the ongoing investigation, and no criminal charges are anticipated at this time. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The accident prompted the closure of all westbound lanes for several hours, reopening around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday (August 24) after the completion of the investigation and crash reconstruction, as reported by NEWS10 ABC.
