Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a historic $3.4 billion investment in water infrastructure across New York State. The funding, managed by the Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC), supports 328 local projects aimed at improving water quality and public health. This marks a 55% increase in funding compared to the previous year, made possible through state and federal partnerships, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The investment allocates $2.6 billion for sewer infrastructure and $821 million for drinking water projects. These initiatives are expected to create approximately 30,000 jobs and provide affordable, reliable, and safe water for all New Yorkers. EFC President Maureen A. Coleman emphasized the strategic leveraging of federal dollars, turning each into more than three dollars of investment in clean water infrastructure.

Governor Hochul highlighted the importance of these projects in transforming communities and protecting public health. She stated, "We’re transforming communities, protecting public health, and ensuring every New Yorker can count on clean, safe water without breaking the bank."

Senator Chuck Schumer praised the effort, calling it a strong use of federal infrastructure funds to keep New York's water safe. The projects include drinking water upgrades, lead pipe replacements, modern sewer systems, and green stormwater solutions.

The EFC's financing mechanisms, including low-interest loans and grants, make these projects affordable for local governments, ensuring long-term benefits for communities across the state.
