A 19-year-old man from Troy, Kemaury Everett, has been indicted by an Albany County grand jury for his involvement in a fatal hit-and-run incident. The incident occurred on August 18, when Everett allegedly struck and killed 93-year-old Charles Allendorph near the intersection of Congress Street and Newark Street in Cohoes.
According to WNYT, Everett not only hit Allendorph with his vehicle but also backed over the victim's body despite witnesses urging him to stop. After the incident, Everett fled the scene and attempted to report his car as stolen. The police later discovered the vehicle abandoned near Dove and Elm streets and arrested Everett at his home.
Everett was arraigned in Albany County Court on charges of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting. He pleaded not guilty and remains in custody at the Albany County Jail. As reported by CBS6 Albany, Everett is scheduled to appear in court again on September 17.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the tragic nature of the incident and the age of the victim. Cohoes Police responded to the scene shortly after the accident, but unfortunately, Allendorph succumbed to his injuries at Albany Medical Center, according to News10.
