In Cohoes, Malik Obie, 32, faces multiple charges of animal cruelty after authorities discovered three dogs living in dire conditions in his apartment on George Street. On Thursday (August 28), Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple reported that deputies found the dogs locked in separate crates without food or water. The crates were filthy, saturated with urine and feces, indicating prolonged neglect.
The dogs were immediately surrendered and are now under the care of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. Obie has been charged with three counts of abandonment of animals, three counts of torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance, and three counts of failure to license dogs. He was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Cohoes City Court on September 4, 2025.
