A tragic accident occurred in Brunswick when a dump truck crashed into a vacant home on Route 2, resulting in the driver's death. The incident happened on Thursday morning (August 28), and authorities confirmed the driver's death at the scene.

According to Jay Wilson, director of public safety for Rensselaer County, the dump truck was fully loaded with gravel or stone when it veered off the road and slammed into the house, moving it 20 feet off its foundation. The truck flipped over, and the house collapsed onto the cab, making rescue efforts extremely challenging.

Emergency responders, including multiple fire departments and agencies, worked tirelessly to access the truck's cab. The body of the driver was recovered late Thursday afternoon. Wilson mentioned that the house was almost entirely demolished due to the crash.

The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office has closed Route 2 between Farm to Market and Bulson roads, advising motorists to find alternative routes. Crews are working to stabilize the structure, and a technical team is assisting with the process. The house will be taken apart piece by piece to ensure safety.

The driver's identity has not been released, but the family has been notified. The truck belonged to a local company known for its work in the area. Fortunately, no contractors were present at the house during the crash.

The New York State Police are investigating the cause of the accident. The scene remains active, and authorities urge the public to avoid the area.
