The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is relaunching its electric scooter program, SCOOT, in Albany today (September 5). The program will feature over 75 scooters available for rent at 10 rack locations throughout the city. Scooters can be rented daily from 6 a.m. to midnight until October 5.

To rent a scooter, users must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license. The cost is $2 to unlock a scooter and an additional 25 cents per minute to ride. According to CDTA CEO Frank Annicaro, the program aims to provide sustainable transit options and gather data on scooter usage in the community.

The scooters will operate within a specific geofenced area to ensure safety and efficiency. Riders must adhere to New York State Bicycle laws, including riding in the roadway and not on sidewalks. Violations of these rules can result in fines, and scooters left outside the geofenced area or unlocked will incur a $50 charge.

Users can lock their scooters to any fixed public object within the riding zone for a $2 convenience fee. For more information, interested individuals can visit the CDTA SCOOT website or contact their customer service.
