The family of Kaylin Gillis is opposing a delay in the wrongful death lawsuit against Kevin Monahan, who was convicted of her murder. Monahan shot Gillis when her vehicle accidentally turned into his driveway in Hebron. He is currently serving a sentence of 27 and one-third years to life in prison. Monahan has appealed his conviction, arguing that the evidence was insufficient to prove depraved indifference murder. He is requesting that the civil lawsuit be paused until the appeal is resolved.

The Gillis family, however, wants the lawsuit to proceed without delay. They argue that Monahan's appeal should not impact the civil case. During his trial, Monahan claimed he accidentally fired the fatal shot after tripping on a nail, but the jury rejected this explanation and found him guilty of murder and tampering with evidence. The appeal, seeking a new trial, has been filed with the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court.

The family's attorney, Donald Boyajian, plans to oppose Monahan's request for a stay in the civil proceedings. Monahan's appeal also cites alleged prosecutorial misconduct and claims of an unfair trial process. Despite these claims, the Gillis family remains firm in their pursuit of justice through the civil lawsuit.
