The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) in Albany, New York, has launched a new campaign to tackle fare evasion on its transit system. The initiative, titled "Respect the Ride. Pay Your Fare," aims to remind riders of the importance of paying their bus fares. CDTA CEO Frank Annicaro stated that fare evasion has become more common recently, impacting the system's revenue and data collection efforts.
The campaign will feature educational signage on buses, shelters, and social media, along with announcements on buses to encourage fare payment. Additionally, CDTA has implemented technology to track fare evasion more effectively. According to Annicaro, "Every rider who pays their fare contributes to a stronger, more reliable system."
The CDTA is also focused on equity, working to expand access to reduced fare programs for eligible low-income riders in the Capital Region. The base cash fare for CDTA is $1.50, while the BusPlus cash fare is $2.00. There are also half-fare programs available for those who qualify. For more information about fares and passes, individuals can visit the CDTA website or contact their Customer Service Center.
