Michael Carr, the driver responsible for a tragic crash nearly nine years ago that resulted in the death of teenager Niko DiNovo, is once again facing legal trouble. A grand jury has indicted the twenty-seven-year-old on a charge of driving while intoxicated (DWI) after he was allegedly seen riding his motorcycle erratically on Western Avenue in Guilderland in June. Carr had been released from prison less than three years ago and was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle under the terms of his release.
The 2016 crash occurred when Carr, then nineteen, drove his car into a truck parked outside Blessings Tavern in Albany, New York, causing a fire that destroyed the tavern and left DiNovo with severe burns. During his court appearance, Carr admitted to driving at sixty miles per hour in a thirty-mile-per-hour zone and losing control of the car. He also confessed to consuming alcohol and marijuana before the crash, impairing his ability to drive.
Carr pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, resulting in a six-year prison sentence and three years of post-release supervision. According to Greenwich Time, Carr was initially released under supervision after his indictment in 2016.
The recent DWI charge adds to Carr's troubled history, highlighting ongoing concerns about his behavior and compliance with legal restrictions. The outcome of the current legal proceedings remains to be seen.
