Fatal Motorcycle and Truck Crash on Route 7 in Niskayuna

A serious crash involving a motorcycle and a truck occurred on Route 7 near Algonquin Road in Niskayuna on Monday (September 15). The Niskayuna Police Department confirmed that the motorcyclist, Christopher Reith, 25, from Latham, died from injuries sustained in the collision. Reith was taken to Ellis Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the truck was transported to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash, which happened around 5:50 p.m., is currently under investigation. The police are urging any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact Detective Daly at (518) 386-4582. This incident occurred in the same area where Assemblyman Robert Smullen’s son AJ was tragically killed in February 2024 while crossing Route 7. In AJ's memory, a traffic safety memorial law was recently passed in both the state assembly and senate.

CBS6 Albany reported that authorities are still gathering more information about the crash and will provide updates as they become available. The community remains on alert as they await further details from the ongoing investigation.
