Siena College in Loudonville celebrated its official transition to university status on Thursday (September 18). The New York State Board of Regents approved the change in July, marking a significant milestone for the institution. The celebration featured a large replica of Siena’s dome rising into the rafters of the UHY Center.
President Charles Seifert emphasized that the core values of the university remain unchanged, but they plan to expand the number of graduate programs offered. "We’re going to increase the number of graduate programs we’re offering," Seifert stated. "And we’re also hoping to further the reputation of Siena and enhance the value of a Siena education," he added.
The campus community marked the occasion with a ceremony at the UHY Center, followed by a block party and a drone show featuring 200 drones, which concluded the evening's festivities as reported by WNYT.
The transition to university status is expected to enhance Siena's academic offerings and reputation, attracting more students and faculty to the institution. The celebration highlighted the excitement and anticipation surrounding this new chapter in Siena's history.
