State Police have provided more details about the ongoing manhunt for Anthony Bechand, a 53-year-old suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, Amanda Rodriguez. During a news conference in Ray Brook on Thursday (September 25), authorities revealed that Bechand likely ran out of fuel near the Canadian border after allegedly stabbing Rodriguez to death earlier this month.

The incident began on September 14 when police responded to a call at Earl Lynn Court in Cohoes and found Rodriguez, 41, dead at the scene. Bechand's white 2024 Chevrolet Silverado was discovered later that day out of gas at the intersection of County Route 60 and County Route 86 in Brighton, Franklin County. Blood found in the vehicle suggests Bechand may be injured.

Authorities, including the U.S. Marshals Task Force and New York State Forest Rangers, have been conducting extensive searches in the heavily wooded areas around Gabriels and Brighton, but there is no evidence that Bechand has crossed into Canada. State Police urge residents to stay alert and report any sightings of Bechand, who is considered armed and dangerous.

The manhunt has entered its twelfth day, with authorities covering over 600 miles and visiting more than 240 residences. A $7,500 reward is being offered for information leading to Bechand's capture. He is described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-11, weighing 180 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the New York State Police at 518-897-2000. Residents are reminded to exercise caution, especially with hunting season approaching, and to review any trail camera footage for suspicious activity.
