Anthony Bechand, the suspect in the murder of Amanda Rodriguez, will appear in court today (September 29) in Albany. Police captured Bechand on Friday (September 26) in the Adirondacks after a nearly two-week manhunt. The search began when Rodriguez, 41, was found dead in her Cohoes home on September 14.
Authorities discovered Bechand's truck in Franklin County, prompting a search across the region. According to Spectrum News, police arrested Bechand after receiving tips about a suspicious person near Paul Smith's College.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Task Force, New York State Forest Rangers, and local police departments. New York State Police thanked the community for their help in locating Bechand.
Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin stated that Bechand was the primary suspect due to his connection to Rodriguez and his presence at the crime scene. As reported by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, Rodriguez's death was ruled a homicide caused by multiple sharp force traumas. Bechand's arraignment will provide more details on the charges he faces.
