Investigation Ongoing After Colonie Cattle Truck Crash

State Police are continuing to investigate a crash that occurred in Colonie involving a tractor-trailer carrying cattle. The accident took place early Wednesday morning (October 22) on the westbound off-ramp of Alternate State Route 7 towards Route 9. Of the 41 cattle on board, four sadly died in the incident. The remaining 37 cattle were assessed by a veterinarian at the scene and then transferred to a holding facility in Stamford. The transfer process took approximately seven hours.

The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. According to WNYT, the crash happened around 4:20 a.m., closing the left lane for several hours. The Albany County Animal Response Team, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, Department of Transportation, and local volunteer fire departments assisted in the operation.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. As reported by NEWS10 ABC, the truck was en route from Cambridge to Stamford when the accident occurred. Authorities are working to determine the factors that led to the rollover.
