A man is facing prison time following a tragic dog attack that resulted in the death of a Schenectady resident. Omar Daniels, 45, pleaded guilty on Wednesday (October 22) in Albany County Court to criminally negligent homicide. The incident occurred last October when Daniels' nine pit bull terriers fatally mauled 59-year-old James Provost behind a home on Central Avenue in Albany.

According to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, police arrived at the scene to find Provost being attacked by the dogs. Officers attempted to stop the attack by firing at the dogs, killing one of them. Provost was pronounced dead at the scene due to internal injuries and bite wounds.

Daniels admitted to owning the dogs and keeping them at the Albany property. He is now facing a possible sentence of two to four years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for January 9.

WNYT reports that Daniels' guilty plea acknowledges his responsibility in the fatal incident.
