Albany police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy on Clinton Avenue in June. The incident occurred late at night on June 23, when officers responded to reports of a shooting near North Lake Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his back. He was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Albany County District Attorney's Office announced that a grand jury indicted the suspect on charges including second-degree murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of tampering with evidence. Due to the suspect's age, his name will not be released, and he is being held at the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.
Authorities believe the shooter and the victim knew each other, and the district attorney's office is seeking to prosecute the 16-year-old as an adult. The investigation remains active, and police are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Albany Police Detective Division.
The arrest comes amid ongoing efforts to address gun violence in Albany. Eric Thompson, a coordinator with the Albany Violence Prevention Task Force, emphasized the importance of community involvement and anti-gun violence programs like SNUG to provide young people with better opportunities.
