Tomorrow (October 25), residents across the Capital Region can safely dispose of unwanted medications during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., people can drop off expired or unused prescriptions at designated collection sites, including police stations. However, these locations will not accept syringes, liquids, or needles. To find a drop-off site near you, visit dea.gov/takebackday.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), in collaboration with nearly 4,000 law enforcement partners, organizes this event to prevent prescription drug misuse and reduce the risk of accidental overdoses and poisonings. Since its inception in 2010, the initiative has collected over 20 million pounds of unused medications, providing a safe and anonymous way for Americans to clean out their medicine cabinets.

DEA Administrator Terrance Cole emphasized the importance of this effort, stating that it reflects a unified mission to keep homes safe and prevent drug misuse. For those unable to participate tomorrow, there are nearly 16,500 pharmacies, hospitals, and businesses offering year-round medication disposal options. More information on permanent drop boxes can be found at deadiversion.usdoj.gov.
