A bomb threat at the Schenectady County Court Building led to an evacuation on Tuesday (October 28) but was later deemed false. The threat targeted the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office, located at 612 State Street, and was made through an anonymous phone call to the Schenectady Police Chief’s Office just before noon.
Authorities, including the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office and multiple law enforcement agencies, swiftly evacuated the building and conducted a thorough search using K9 units trained in explosives detection. According to CBS 6 Albany, no dangerous materials were found, and the area was declared safe.
The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Unit is leading the ongoing investigation to identify the individual responsible for the false threat. Criminal charges may be filed once the suspect is identified. The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Schenectady Police Department, New York State Police, and other agencies for their assistance.
The threat comes just one week before Election Day, with Schenectady County District Attorney Robert Carney running for re-election unopposed. News10 ABC reported that anyone with information is urged to contact Sergeant Robert Decarlo at 518-388-4330 ext. 7004.
