Albany police have determined that a fire on Twiller Street, which claimed the lives of five people on October 6, was intentionally set and is now being investigated as a homicide. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of two men, Erick DeCamp, 52, and Eric Peterson, 47, along with three children aged 3, 4, and 6.

The blaze, which broke out just before 10:45 a.m., quickly engulfed the home, making it Albany's deadliest fire in over a decade. According to Times Union, the fire's victims included DeCamp's children, who were remembered as beloved members of their school community.

Authorities, including the Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, and the Albany County District Attorney’s Fire Investigation Team, are working together to solve the case. As reported by CBS6 Albany, the investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

The fire, which also damaged neighboring homes, has left the community in mourning. A vigil was held on October 7 to honor the victims, where mourners gathered to pay their respects. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Albany Police Detective Division or submit anonymous tips to Capital Region Crime Stoppers.
