Residents in the Capital Region, should brace for strong winds today as a wind advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Friday (October 31) to 8 a.m. Saturday (November 1). According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour are expected, which could lead to fallen tree limbs and potential power outages.
The advisory comes as part of a larger storm system affecting the Northeast, following a rainstorm that caused flash flooding in some areas. The Daily Voice reports that southwest to west winds of 20 to 30 mph will accompany the gusts, raising the risk of downed power lines and unsecured outdoor decorations being blown away.
News10 meteorologists advise those heading out for Halloween festivities to prepare for showers and chilly conditions, with temperatures expected to drop into the 40s by evening. The gusty winds will make it feel even colder, and those with outdoor decorations are encouraged to secure them.
As the storm system moves northeast, Yahoo News notes that the rain will taper off, but strong winds will persist into early Saturday. Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should be cautious on bridges and elevated roads.
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to calm down by Sunday (November 2), with partly sunny skies and seasonable temperatures. However, the region will continue to experience cool temperatures through the first week of November.
