Seven people have been displaced following a fire that broke out in a building on Lark Street in Albany on Saturday (November 1). The blaze caused significant damage to the second floor of the three-story structure and also affected two neighboring buildings. Fire crews arrived at the scene around 4:09 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor.

According to Albany Fire Chief Joseph Gregory, the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among civilians or firefighters. The American Red Cross is currently assisting the displaced residents.

The fire also caused extensive smoke and water damage to Bitchin’ Donuts, a popular donut shop located on the first floor of the building. Owner Tania Sharlow stated that the shop would be closed for at least three to six months for repairs. In response to the damage, Sharlow decided to donate the shop's perishable food items, including bread, milk, and donuts, to local community members in need.

Sharlow expressed concern for the community, especially in light of recent cuts to SNAP benefits, and emphasized the importance of not letting the food go to waste. A GoFundMe campaign is expected to be launched to support the shop's recovery efforts. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
