Selina Nelson-Reilly, the wife of Chester's highway superintendent, John Reilly III, has been indicted for allegedly deleting video evidence related to a shooting incident involving her husband. Nelson-Reilly, 45, faces charges including hindering prosecution and 17 counts of tampering with physical evidence, according to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.
The incident occurred on May 2, when John Reilly III allegedly shot a DoorDash delivery driver who was lost and trying to deliver food in Chester. The driver, a West African immigrant, sustained severe injuries and required multiple surgeries. Reilly, 48, has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a firearm. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial in February.
Prosecutors claim that after speaking with investigators, Nelson-Reilly deleted 17 videos from the couple's doorbell camera and later texted a friend about the deletions. She reportedly told detectives she was unaware of the shooting and denied knowing anyone had come to the residence.
Video footage obtained by the Times Union shows the delivery driver approaching the Reillys' home, ringing the doorbell, and waving. John Reilly is seen exiting the house, firing shots, and yelling at the driver. The driver was reportedly lost and seeking directions when the incident occurred.
John Reilly, who is a federally licensed firearms dealer, spent several days in jail before posting bail. His attorney, Thomas Kenniff, claims Reilly acted in self-defense. Despite calls for his resignation, Reilly has refused to step down from his position as highway superintendent.
