Residents of the Capital Region are heading to the polls on Tuesday (November 4) for the U.S. general election. Voters will decide on several key local races, including mayoral contests in Albany and Saratoga Springs. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In Albany, the mayoral race features Democrat Dorcey Applyrs against Republican Rocco Pezzulo. The winner will succeed current Mayor Kathy Sheehan. Meanwhile, in Saratoga Springs, incumbent Republican John Safford is seeking a second term against Democrat Michele Madigan. Safford highlights his efforts to restore civility, expand housing projects, and improve city services. Madigan, a former city finance commissioner, focuses on increasing workforce housing and revising the city's homeless ordinance.

In addition to local races, New York voters will decide on a statewide measure regarding the use of state forest preserve land in Essex County for an Olympic sports complex. The proposal would allow skiing and related facilities on 1,039 acres, with the state adding 2,500 acres of new forest land to the Adirondack Park if approved.

Voters must have registered by October 25 to participate, and early voting took place from October 25 to November 2. Ballots must be postmarked or delivered by November 4 and received by November 12. For more information on polling locations and sample ballots, residents can visit their county's Board of Elections website.
