A cooking mishap is suspected to have caused the multi-alarm fire in Albany on Sunday (November 2). The blaze broke out in a second-floor apartment at 193 Lark Street around 4 p.m., leading to significant damage and displacing seven residents. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

The fire, which was brought under control in about 30 minutes, also affected Bitchin' Donuts, a popular donut shop located on the building's first floor. The shop suffered extensive smoke and water damage, with the ceiling in the lobby area starting to cave in. Owner Tania Sharlow expressed concerns about the shop's future, noting that they will remain closed for three to six months for repairs.

In the aftermath of the fire, Sharlow decided to give away perishable food items, such as bread, milk, and egg liquids, to the local community to prevent waste. She emphasized the importance of helping those in need, especially with recent cuts to SNAP benefits. The community has shown support, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to aid the shop's recovery.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents by providing temporary housing and essential supplies. Albany Fire Chief Joseph Gregory confirmed that the fire is still under investigation. The building next door, 191 Lark Street, also sustained smoke and water damage.

According to the Times Union, emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene, ensuring the safety of all residents. CBS6 Albany reported that the fire was under control within half an hour, and no injuries were recorded. News10 highlighted the community's response to the food giveaway and the ongoing investigation into the fire's cause.
