The City School District of Albany has postponed the introduction of new security systems at Albany High School. Originally set to launch on Wednesday (November 12), the implementation of walk-through and bag scanners has been delayed to allow for more community engagement. Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter stated that the district "moved a little too quickly" and aims to involve students and families more thoroughly in the process.
The district plans to hold several public meetings to discuss the new RONIN walk-through scanners and LINEV bag scanners. These meetings will offer families the opportunity to ask questions and express concerns about the new security measures. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the library of Albany High School.
According to Spectrum Local News, the district believes the new systems will enhance safety and improve efficiency during morning entry by providing quicker and more accurate screenings. However, the district acknowledges the need for better communication with the community before moving forward.
News10 reports that both parents and students are encouraged to attend the meetings to ensure a collaborative approach to the new safety measures. The district aims to implement the systems after Thanksgiving, following these discussions.
The Albany Schools website highlights the district's commitment to safety and the importance of engaging the community in these plans. The goal is to create a safe learning environment for everyone in the Albany High community.
