Saratoga's annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery has been canceled due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. The shutdown has resulted in a lack of funding, which led to the cancellation of the event, as reported by CBS6 Albany. Despite the cancellation, the Avenue of Flags has been raised to honor those who have served, thanks to the assistance of students from Stillwater Central School.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has stated that while some services are affected by the shutdown, burials will continue at VA national cemeteries, and applications for headstones, markers, and burial benefits will still be processed. According to CBS6 Albany, the public is encouraged to visit the cemetery independently to reflect and pay tribute.

Similar cancellations have occurred at national cemeteries across the country due to maintenance issues linked to the shutdown. The community is invited to visit the Avenue of Flags display at the Saratoga National Cemetery to honor veterans in their own way.
