The New York State Police have identified 80-year-old Patricia Balcom of Chatham as the victim in a fatal car crash in Nassau. The incident occurred on Monday (November 10) on State Route 20. According to police, an eastbound vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with Balcom's westbound car. Balcom was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to Albany Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition. The crash prompted a temporary closure of State Route 20 between State Route 66 and Kinderhook Lane for investigation and collision reconstruction. The road has since reopened.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the accident and whether any charges will be filed.
