Troy Turkey Trot Revives Costume Contest Tradition

The Troy Turkey Trot, a beloved Thanksgiving Day tradition in Troy is bringing back its popular costume contest for the 78th annual event. Participants can compete in two categories: Best Thanksgiving Day Costume and Most Unique Costume. A total of $350 in prizes will be awarded, with first place receiving $100, second place $50, and third place $25 in each category.

Entries can be submitted online through the Troy Turkey Trot website until 2 p.m. on November 26, the day before Thanksgiving, or in person at the O Snap Photo Booth in the Troy Atrium on the morning of the race. As reported by NEWS10, all costume entries will be posted on the Troy Turkey Trot Facebook page, where the public can vote for their favorites by liking the photos. Winners will be announced during the first week of December.

The Troy Turkey Trot, one of the oldest road races in the United States, attracts up to 20,000 participants, volunteers, and spectators each year. The event begins with a 10K race at 8 a.m., followed by a one-mile Turkey Walk and Grade School Mile at 9:30 a.m., and a 5K run at 10 a.m. According to the official Troy Turkey Trot website, the event supports several local charities, including the Regional Food Bank and Joseph's House and Shelter.

Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello expressed excitement about the return of the costume contest, stating, "The costumes are a huge part of what makes the Troy Turkey Trot such a beloved holiday tradition." The event promises a festive atmosphere with participants donning creative and themed costumes, adding to the holiday spirit in Troy.
