Schenectady Police Detail Standoff with Armed Suspect

The Schenectady Police Department has shared more information about a tense standoff that occurred on Sunday (November 16) on Oregon Avenue in Schenectady. Officers were called to the scene after a woman reported that a man in the residence, identified as 42-year-old Donnie Ray Devine, had threatened her with a gun. The woman managed to leave the house safely, but Devine remained inside with six other individuals.

The standoff lasted several hours, during which police negotiated with Devine. He eventually surrendered peacefully to law enforcement. Devine now faces felony weapons charges and an assault charge. The woman who was allegedly struck by Devine with the gun received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Schenectady Police Department to manage and resolve potentially dangerous situations safely. As the investigation continues, Devine's legal proceedings are expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
