Memorial Service Today for Former Siena President

A memorial service will be held today for Father Kevin Mackin, former president of Siena University, who passed away on Saturday (November 15) at Teresian House in Albany. Father Mackin was 87 years old and had been battling a long illness. The service will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Saint Mary of the Angels Chapel in Loudonville, New York.

Father Mackin served as the ninth president of Siena University from 1996 to 2007. During his tenure, he oversaw significant improvements in campus facilities and academic programming, leaving a lasting impact on the university. According to CBS6 Albany, his leadership was marked by his wisdom, humility, and commitment to Franciscan values.

After his time at Siena, Father Mackin became the president of Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York, from 2008 to 2014. His presidency at the Mount was characterized by transformative growth and the launch of several key initiatives, including the "A Call to Excellence" campaign, which raised $10 million for the Dominican Center. Mount Saint Mary College remembers him as a pivotal figure in their history.

Born on April 5, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, Father Mackin earned his bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure University and later acquired a master's degree in history from Siena. He also earned four additional degrees, including a doctorate in sacred theology from the Catholic University of America.

Father Mackin's funeral will take place on Saturday (November 22) at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Butler, New Jersey, followed by his burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa, New Jersey.
