A Saratoga County sheriff's deputy is recovering after being injured by an alleged drunk driver in Clifton Park, New York. The incident occurred early Saturday morning (November 22) when 51-year-old Thomas Fogarty, driving a 2022 Toyota pickup truck, failed to stop at a stop sign on Pierce Road and collided with the deputy's vehicle at the intersection with Kinns Road. The deputy was treated for an arm injury at Saratoga Hospital and later released.

After the crash, Fogarty fled the scene but was later apprehended on Twilight Drive. He refused to take a chemical test, according to CBS6 Albany. Fogarty faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated (DWI), leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.

Sheriff Michael Zurlo expressed relief that the deputy was not seriously injured, stating, "The number of DWI arrests we have seen this year have been off the charts and a lot of them have been related to crashes. It’s a troubling trend," as reported by WNYT. Fogarty was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court and released on his own recognizance.

The Saratoga County Sheriff's Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted in the investigation, and the case is expected to proceed in court in the coming weeks.
