Travelers in the Capital Region will face higher gas prices this Thanksgiving season. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the area is now $3.14. This marks an increase of two cents over the past week, six cents over the past month, and seven cents compared to the same period last year.

The state average for gas in New York is currently $3.15 per gallon, slightly higher than the national average of $3.05. AAA reports that nearly 90 percent of Thanksgiving travelers will be driving, with 73.3 million people expected to hit the road. Many drivers might choose this option to avoid potential airport chaos, as reported by CNY Central.

Despite the rise in the Capital Region, gas prices across the country are relatively stable. Fox Business notes that nearly 30 states have average gas prices below $3 per gallon, with Oklahoma offering the lowest prices at $2.50 per gallon.

As travelers prepare for the busiest travel period of the year, AAA advises filling up the night before a trip and checking vehicle readiness to avoid roadside emergencies. With the holiday season in full swing, drivers should expect heavy traffic and plan accordingly to ensure a smooth journey.
