Investigation Underway After Fatal Thruway Crash in Albany

An investigation is ongoing following a tragic two-vehicle crash on the New York State Thruway at Exit 24 in Albany. The collision occurred on Monday evening (December 1) around 6:45 p.m., resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. According to the New York State Police, the crash happened when one vehicle entered the Thruway from the acceleration ramp, blocking the path of another vehicle, which then collided with the first car.

The first vehicle, carrying two adults and three minors, was struck by the second vehicle, which had four adults. The driver of the first vehicle was transported to Albany Medical Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The remaining passengers from both vehicles were also taken to the hospital for treatment. The identities of those involved are being withheld until the next of kin are notified.

As reported by State Police, the crash caused significant traffic disruptions, with I-87 northbound traffic being diverted off Exit 24. Traffic has since been cleared through the right lane. Troop T and Troop G's Bureau of Criminal Investigation remain on the scene to determine the cause of the accident.

The incident has highlighted the dangers of improper merging and the importance of vigilance while driving on highways. As the investigation continues, authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such tragedies in the future.
