A domestic disturbance in Troy escalated into a shootout on Saturday (November 28), leaving 41-year-old parolee Michael Rodriguez in critical but stable condition. The incident began when a woman called 911, reporting that Rodriguez, her ex-partner, was chasing her with a handgun and had threatened her life. According to the Troy Police Department, officers located Rodriguez near Sixth Avenue, where he fired multiple shots at them without provocation. The officers returned fire, and Rodriguez fled through a parking lot before collapsing. He dropped a handgun and illegal narcotics at the scene.

Rodriguez, who has a lengthy criminal record, is on parole for a 2019 conviction of attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He has spent much of the past two decades in prison for various charges, including attempted robbery and possession of controlled substances. Mayor Carmella Mantello expressed relief that no officers or community members were harmed during the incident, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of police work.

The Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office is involved in the investigation, and charges against Rodriguez are expected once his condition stabilizes. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is also assisting in the investigation.
