New York State Police have announced the results of their Thanksgiving weekend crackdown on dangerous driving. Between Wednesday (November 26) and Sunday (November 30), officers issued 13,036 tickets statewide. This enforcement effort, funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, aimed to improve road safety during the busy holiday period.

The crackdown resulted in 247 arrests for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and the investigation of 1,277 crashes, two of which were fatal. Troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints and increased DWI patrols, focusing on speeding, aggressive driving, and the use of handheld electronic devices while driving.

In the Capital Region, 37 drivers were arrested for DWI. Across the state, tickets were issued for various offenses, including 4,454 for speeding, 278 for distracted driving, 1,108 for seatbelt violations, and 243 for Move Over Law violations.

During last year's Thanksgiving enforcement period, the State Police issued 12,867 tickets and made 259 DWI arrests. The results of this year's campaign highlight the ongoing efforts to enhance road safety during high-traffic times.

According to Binghamton Homepage, the initiative was part of a broader strategy to reduce road accidents and ensure safer travel for all motorists during the holiday season.
