An investigation is underway in North Greenbush, New York, after the body of a 65-year-old man was discovered in a bathroom at a Stewart's Shop on North Greenbush Road. Employees found the man early Wednesday (December 17), prompting a response from local police, the Defreestville Fire Department, and North Greenbush Ambulance.
Surveillance footage shows the man entering the store's bathroom around 7 p.m. on Tuesday (December 16) and not exiting. The store staff failed to check the bathroom before closing, which is against their usual protocol. "We didn’t follow protocol," said Robin Cooper, a spokesperson for the store chain, according to Times Union.
The North Greenbush Police Department is leading the investigation, and authorities have stated there is no evidence of foul play. The Rensselaer County Medical Legal Death Investigator’s Office is working to determine the cause of death, which is suspected to be a medical event. The man's identity has not been released, pending notification of his next of kin, as reported by CBS6 Albany.
