Commuters in Albany, New York, faced a slippery morning on Monday (December 29) due to freezing rain overnight. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for several counties, including Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga, in effect until 10 a.m. The advisory warned of very slippery sidewalks, roads, and bridges, urging drivers to slow down and use caution.
According to the National Weather Service, a band of light to moderate precipitation moved in from the west, contributing to pockets of freezing rain. This led to hazardous conditions impacting the morning commute. The weather service emphasized the importance of being prepared for icy conditions, recommending that drivers keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
The ice storm warning for Montgomery County remained in effect until 10 a.m., with significant icing reported. The freezing rain threat ended early in the morning, but untreated surfaces remained slippery.
Residents are advised to exercise caution while walking on driveways and sidewalks, as these surfaces could be icy. Fortunately, the weather is expected to remain dry for the rest of the week, providing some relief from the icy conditions.
