Starting today, Troy is launching a Christmas tree recycling program to help residents dispose of their trees responsibly. According to WNYT, the program will run through January 19. Residents can leave their real Christmas trees at the curb on their regular collection day for pickup by the City of Troy Quality-of-Life Action Crews. Alternatively, trees can be dropped off at the Troy Resource Management Facility, known as the Alamo, located at the corner of Main Street and East Industrial Parkway. The facility is open for drop-offs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Mayor Carmella R. Mantello encourages residents to participate in the program, which aims to convert the trees into mulch, contributing to healthier soil and reducing landfill waste. "This Christmas tree recycling program is a simple and impactful way for residents to help protect our environment," Mantello said.
Residents are reminded to remove all ornaments, lights, decorations, and tree stands before recycling their trees. Only real trees will be accepted. For disposal of artificial trees, residents should contact the Department of Public Works at (518) 270-4579.
