Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello is set to introduce a bill that would impose a six-month moratorium on the approval and development of Battery Energy Storage System facilities in Troy. The proposed pause aims to provide the city, known as the Collar City, with sufficient time to assess safety standards and environmental impacts associated with these facilities. Mayor Mantello emphasized the importance of these facilities for the future but acknowledged the concerns they raise.

The legislation will be presented to the City Council during their meeting on Thursday (January 22). The moratorium is intended to ensure the safety of both residents and first responders as the city evaluates the potential risks and benefits of the facilities.

While the focus is currently on the proposed moratorium, Mayor Mantello has also been involved in other initiatives, such as significant upgrades to Frear Park. These upgrades, approved through a bipartisan City Council vote, aim to enhance accessibility and recreation in one of Troy’s key community spaces.
