Schenectady County officials remind residents that the deadline for public comments on the final design proposals for the Interstate 890 Exit 4C ramp is Monday (January 12). The ramp, which provides access to key locations like Schenectady County Community College, General Electric, and the Historic Stockade District, is part of a larger plan to improve the area.

The proposed changes involve eliminating the current ramp and realigning Exit 4B, along with access to Washington Avenue and the Western Gateway Bridge. According to Schenectady Metroplex, the Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study Report presents six design alternatives, with three recommended for future consideration.

Richard Patierne, Schenectady County Legislator and Chair of the Committee on Public Facilities, Transportation, & Infrastructure, emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping the report. "Community involvement and feedback played an important part in the creation of this draft report," Patierne stated.

The study aims to create a safer and more connected environment for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature, highlighted the significance of the project, stating that it will enhance connectivity and support local businesses.

Residents can review the report and submit comments online or by mail to the Schenectady County Department of Engineering and Public Works. While the final PEL Study is expected to be completed in early 2026, there is currently no schedule for construction.
