Motorists in the Capital Region are enjoying lower fuel prices as the new year begins. According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline is now $2.98, a decrease of three cents from last week and 14 cents less than a month ago. The state average stands at $3.00, while the national average is slightly lower at $2.79.

The drop in fuel prices is attributed to stable crude oil prices and strong gasoline supply, even with increased demand during the holiday season. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that gasoline production has increased, contributing to the stability in prices. According to AAA Newsroom, the national average of $2.81 is the lowest since March 2021.

The trend of declining gas prices is expected to continue, with no sharp increases anticipated in the near future. Factors such as sluggish gas demand and the cheaper winter blend gasoline are contributing to the current price levels. For more updates on gas prices and trends, visit the AAA Fuel Site.
