Schenectady County Public Health Services is hosting a free naloxone training session today (January 12) at the Honorable Karen B. Johnson Library on Clinton Street in Schenectady. The event is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and aims to educate attendees on recognizing signs of drug overdoses and administering naloxone, also known as Narcan. Participants will receive free naloxone kits and fentanyl and xylazine testing strips.

According to NEWS10 ABC, these sessions provide essential life-saving techniques and resources to combat opioid-related emergencies. The training is part of a broader effort by the county to address the ongoing opioid crisis, with courses available throughout the year both in-person and online.

For those unable to attend in person, Schenectady County Library offers an online version of the training. Upon completion, participants can obtain free naloxone kits from Schenectady County Public Health Services.

In addition to naloxone kits, Colonie EMS provides resources such as fentanyl and xylazine test strips, which are crucial for harm reduction. These strips help detect dangerous substances often found in street drugs.
