Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett announced he will not seek reelection after his current term ends in 2026. Barrett, who has led the Saratoga County community for over 26 years, cited personal interests as the reason for his decision to step down. He is also the chair of the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.

Barrett was first elected as Clifton Park's supervisor in 1999, defeating Democrat Martin O'Connor by 800 votes. Over his 14 consecutive terms, Barrett has been a significant figure in local politics. Despite recent Democratic gains in the traditionally purple Saratoga County, Barrett stated in a blog post that these changes did not influence his decision to retire.

Barrett expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and hinted that he would remain active in the region beyond 2026, although he did not specify his future plans. His current term was shortened due to a change in New York law that aligns municipal elections with state and federal elections.
