The former court clerk of Saugerties, Haley Whalen, has been sentenced to five years of probation for tampering with public records. The sentencing follows her unauthorized dismissal of charges against the father of her child while working at the court. In addition to her probation, Whalen is required to make restitution of $100 to the court.

Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating, "Tampering with court records is not a victimless crime or a small matter; it is at the heart of fairness and justice for all." He further noted that such actions undermine public trust in the judicial system and highlighted the need for prosecution to maintain the integrity of the courts.

Whalen had already spent eight months in jail related to a separate DWI case. The investigation into her actions was conducted by the State Police, leading to the charges filed against her.

According to Mid Hudson News, the case underscores the importance of preserving public trust and ensuring fair judicial processes.
