The state Office of General Services will hold its annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy tonight at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the event starting at 6:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Egg Performing Arts Center. The evening will begin with a welcoming reception.
Attendees are encouraged to bring donations for the MLK Food Drive or Book Drive. Free parking is available in the V-Lot starting at 4:00 p.m. Reservations can be made online but are not required. According to the event's official page, light refreshments will be served during the reception.
The event aims to honor Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community," where poverty, hunger, and homelessness are eradicated, and all forms of discrimination are replaced by an inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood. The celebration is part of a broader effort to remember Dr. King's contributions to civil rights and social justice.
