The Adirondack Thunder hockey team is combining sports and animal welfare this weekend with their "Pucks 4 Paws" charity event to benefit local animal shelters.

The ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils will host the special event on Sunday (February 1) during their game against the Maine Mariners at Harding Mazzotti Arena in Glens Falls, New York. The event is part of a three-game weekend homestand against the Mariners.

Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring donations of new pet food, blankets, and toys. Representatives from Benson's Pet Center, the event sponsor, will be on hand to collect the donations, which will benefit local animal shelters and rescue organizations.

Those who contribute will be entered into drawings for various prizes, including New Jersey Devils tickets, Adirondack Thunder tickets, team merchandise, and complimentary Adirondack Thunder decals.

While pets aren't permitted at the game, the event will feature special canine activities. An on-ice race will showcase service dogs from Firefly Meadow Service Dogs competing to find the fastest four-legged skater. Following the game, the service dogs will participate in a puppy yoga session led by instructors from the Body Barre studio in Queensbury.

The "Pucks 4 Paws" event is part of a weekend of special promotions by the Thunder. Friday's game will include pin and t-shirt giveaways, while Saturday is designated as Law Enforcement Night, featuring youth hockey jersey giveaways to the first 1,000 children aged 14 and under.

Sunday's game begins at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling 518-480-3355 or through the Thunder's website.
