Residents of Mayfield continue to face water challenges as a boil water advisory remains in effect Monday (February 2) following yet another water system failure over the weekend.

The advisory was issued Sunday after a new leak was discovered in the village's troubled water system around 1 a.m., just days after service had been restored from a previous outage. According to NEWS10, Water Commissioner Joe Nehrbauer reported that crews have completed repairs on the pumphouse and are slowly refilling the system.

"The turning point was about 1:00 [a.m.] when we started getting some indications from people in the village that water pressure had dropped. They lost water at their homes," Nehrbauer explained to NEWS10.

This latest disruption comes less than 48 hours after water service had been restored late Friday night. The village had been without water since Tuesday following a leak in the foundation of the pump house that required extensive repairs, including a pump replacement, plumbing reinforcements, and new electrical wiring.

Despite the inconvenience, many residents acknowledged the village's efforts to provide assistance. The Mayfield Fire Department has been supplying water from a tanker at the town garage, with Chief Mark Van Allen noting they're distributing about 750 gallons daily to residents.

The Village of Mayfield announced that water will be available at the Town Barn from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday.

Health officials remind residents under the advisory to boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or any consumption to kill potential bacteria. The boil water advisory is expected to remain in effect for 72 hours after water service is fully restored.

"I mean the improvements we're making, it's a better system. Even though it didn't fill the village, I mean with a brand new pump, we've got brand new wires. So, you know, these are things that aren't going to go wrong again," Nehrbauer said, expressing optimism about the long-term improvements being made.

Updates on the water situation will continue to be posted on the Village of Mayfield Facebook page as crews work to fully restore service.
