Former Baltimore Ravens player and coach Anthony Weaver is returning to the organization as defensive coordinator under new head coach Jesse Minter, the team announced Monday.
Weaver, 45, spent the last two seasons as the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator. His NFL journey began when the Ravens selected him in the second round of the 2002 draft. The Notre Dame product played four seasons in Baltimore before finishing his playing career with three years in Houston.
This marks Weaver's third stint with the Ravens. After his playing days, he returned to Baltimore as defensive line coach from 2021-2023, also holding titles of run game coordinator and associate head coach during that period.
"It's hard not to love this hire," wrote Baltimore Beatdown, noting Weaver's 21 years of NFL experience brings valuable leadership to a coaching staff featuring first-time head coach Minter and 30-year-old offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.
In his first season with Miami, Weaver transformed the Dolphins defense into a top-10 unit in both points and yards allowed, though the unit regressed in 2025, ranking 24th and 22nd respectively in those categories.
The Ravens also announced several other coaching hires Monday, including Doyle as offensive coordinator, Dwayne Ledford as offensive line coach/run game coordinator, Mike Mickens as defensive pass game coordinator, Tyler Santucci as inside linebackers coach and Charlie Gelman as game management coordinator/defensive assistant.
Weaver replaces former defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, who left to become head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. He joins a Ravens organization looking to rebound after missing the playoffs last season, which led to the firing of longtime head coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons.
