An Albany man has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found unconscious in his vehicle with a loaded gun in his hand.

Eric Gamble, 37, received his sentence on Wednesday (February 5) after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon. The sentence includes five years of post-release supervision, according to local reports.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of October 25, 2025, when Albany police discovered Gamble slumped over the steering wheel of his 2015 black Infinity. The vehicle was running and parked in the middle of Grand Street at the intersection with Madison Avenue. Officers found Gamble holding a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol with one round in the chamber and three in the magazine.

When police ordered Gamble to exit the vehicle, he instead sped away, striking multiple parked cars as he fled. He continued driving until officers apprehended him near Avondale Terrace and Catherine Street.

At the time of his arrest, Gamble was already on probation for previous offenses including DWI and gun possession charges, according to Albany County District Attorney Lee Kindlon.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Marissa Olsen of the Street Crimes Unit.
