Catholic Central School in Albany has canceled classes for Friday (February 6) after a water main break cut off the building's water supply.
School officials announced the emergency closure through social media early Friday morning, explaining that the infrastructure issue had completely prevented water from reaching the school facilities.
"We apologize for any inconvenience and truly appreciate your understanding. We look forward to welcoming our Crusaders back on Monday!" the school stated in their announcement, referring to their school mascot.
The sudden closure comes during a period of cold weather in the Albany region, with temperatures hovering around 12 degrees Fahrenheit. While officials have not explicitly linked the cold temperatures to the water main break, such infrastructure failures are more common during winter months when freezing conditions can stress aging water systems.
Parents and students have been advised to monitor the school's official communication channels for any updates regarding the situation. School administrators expect normal operations to resume by Monday, suggesting repair crews will have the weekend to address the water supply issue.
